Cambridge Assessment English
Part of Cambridge Assessment English at the University of Cambridge, offers progressive assessments designed to evaluate English language proficiency for students and the general public. Aligned with the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference), it provides standardized descriptions of English proficiency worldwide. Assessments are graded according to CEFR levels and the Cambridge English Scale.
Progressive Assessment with CEFR
The Common European Framework of Reference plays a very central role in language and education policy not only in Europe, but also around the world. The CEFR is an important part of Language Ability Testers to help define language level skills and interpret language qualifications.
The CEFR describes language skills on a scale consisting of 7 levels starting from level pre-Al for beginners to C2 for those who are advanced. This makes it easy for everyone involved in language teaching and testing (students, teachers, trainers, and others) to see different Qualification levels.
This also means that employees and educational institutions can easily compare Qualifications and see how they are related to Cambridge English exams. All Cambridge English exams are in accordance with the levels outlined by the CEFR.
Support for Teachers
Cambridge Assessment English offers comprehensive support for English language instruction with exam preparation materials, complimentary teaching resources, and training programs. These tools are designed to help educators teach more effectively and to provide students with the best opportunities for success.
Globally Recognized
More than 25,000 universities, employers, and government agencies around the world recognize Cambridge English qualifications. These qualifications are trusted as credible evidence of English language proficiency. Holding a Cambridge English qualification demonstrates language skills and opens up opportunities for higher education and improved career prospects. Each year, over 5 million people take these exams in more than 140 countries.

OxfordAQA
A partnership between Oxford University Press and AQA, by far the UK’s largest provider of GCSEs and A-levels. OxfordAQA is the international exam board that puts fairness first. Benchmarked to UK standards, OxfordAQA exams only ever test subject ability, using accessible language and internationally relevant contexts. This gives every student the best possible chance to show what they can do and get results they deserve.
Fairness Comes First
Fair Assessment is achieved by leveraging the expertise and research developed by AQA over more than 100 years. This same research has enabled AQA to become the UK’s largest awarding body, with over 7 million GCSEs and A-levels marked each year. The deep educational expertise of Oxford University Press is also utilized to ensure that students who speak English as a second language have the same opportunity to achieve top grades as native English speakers.
The Oxford 3000™
All the OxfordAQA exams are using The Oxford 3000™, a list of the most frequent and useful words in the English language, selected based on extensive research to ensure all our exams are
accessible for international students.
To achieve reliability in our assessments, our mark schemes enable positive marking, so students are rewarded for what they have shown they know and can do. The teachers marking our exams undergo a rigorous training process to ensure papers are marked fairly and consistently.
9-1 Grading Structure
The 9−1 grading system measures student ability against this new higher standard. During the transition period from old to reformed GCSEs, the new standard was benchmarked to the old at three grade points: A/7, C/4 and 1/G. This ensures students who take 9−1 GCSEs are not disadvantaged compared with those who took the old A*-G GCSEs.
In fact, students at the higher end of the ability range now benefit under the new system. The reformed GCSEs allow for more differentiation at the top end, giving students the opportunity to achieve a new ‘exceptional’ grade 9 – higher than the old A*.
Globally Recognised
OxfordAQA qualifications are internationally recognized and accepted by universities and higher education institutions worldwide, opening doors for students to continue their education abroad, anywhere in the world.
Also, OxfordAQA International GCSEs and A-levels were designed alongside the reformed AQA qualifications. This ensures that our qualifications remain comparable in the standard of the content and coverage of skills – two areas that were at the heart of the reforms.
