Set in 1995, Captain Marvel follows Carol Danvers, a former U.S. Air Force fighter pilot, as she turns into one of the galaxy’s mightiest heroes and joins Starforce, an elite Kree military team. This is the basis of the film that has been keenly awaited by many movie lovers since it was announced in October 2014. Captain Marvel is Marvel Studios’ first female led film, and the lead character is a prime example of the fact that women can do anything. Focusing on presenting strong female characters, the film is set to be released in the United States on March 8, 2019, on International Women’s Day.
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. This day may be filled with voices telling women’s stories and underscoring the important role women play in our world.
What does International Women Day mean to you? Are we celebrating progress? Are we celebrating the various roles women perform? It is time to think about what is the essence of a woman. We may remember many of the remarkable women who have made a lasting impact on our countries, communities, families, and personal relationships.
International Women’s Day celebrates womanhood at any age—not to be judged, not to be toyed with, not to be belittled, but to be cherished, to be admired, and to be loved. Celebrating womanhood is based on the belief that positive and possible examples are crucial to bringing about positive change. It is an endeavour to honour women in overcoming barriers to achieve a breakthroughs in their field of work, making a positive impact.
As the saying goes education is power. Education helps a woman to be more self-confident, and make decisions for herself and her loved ones. Being aware of people and places outside our community also broadens her thinking and perceptions, and exposes her to a world which might be different from hers. Education also gives her an opportunity to explore employment opportunities or become self-employed, and also plan a better future. Education empowers girls and women to achieve more in their social, working, economic, and family lives. With strong educational backgrounds, women have the capacity to achieve their goals.
As Oprah once said, “Not only are you responsible for your life, but doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment.” The power that it takes to charge our year is massive; particularly if we have big goals. Big goals typically take a lot of energy—sleepless nights, countless meetings, constant planning. Finding the source (or various sources) of energy to fuel our passion is the key to creating a year of monumental success and progress. Some of our energy may stem from the support of our family and friends; some of it may derive from the backing of our network; most of it will come from ourselves. Fuelling our mind with affirmative thinking, organizing our life with specific plans, and seeking to discover new opportunities for growth all contribute to the power we can plug into our own life.
