Strengthening Numeration and Character of Elementary Students Through Mentari Mathematics Olympiad (MEMO) 2022

After successfully holding the Mentari Mathematics Olympiad (MEMO) 2021, Mentari Group is back with MEMO 2022 as part of the Pelajar Berkreasi program. MEMO 2022 is here to support the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia in improving numeracy skills that are relevant to the Pancasila Student Profile and in line with the Decree of the Head of the Education Standards, Curriculum and Assessment Agency of the Ministry of Education and Culture Number 008/KR/2022 concerning Learning Outcomes in PAUD, Education Levels, and Education Levels in Independent Curriculum Point IV Mathematics Subject. MEMO 2022 is designed as a positive activity for students that supports them to strengthen their character and improve their numeracy skills.

MEMO 2022 was divided into three categories, namely, grade 3 to grade 5 primary and was attended by 931 participants from 249 schools in 58 cities in Indonesia. The competition was held simultaneously throughout Indonesia using the Mentari Group partner platform, PesonaEdu, with supervision via Zoom. Similar to the previous year, the MEMO 2022 competition also consisted of two rounds: The First Round that was held on 10th September 2022 and the Final Round that was held on 24th September 2022. The participants joined the First Round earnestly and diligently to answer the challenges by completing 25 questions specially created by the Mentari Mathematics team with the focus on honing high order thinking skills and the character of the participants. In the First Round, 20 percent of the participants with the highest scores were selected to join the Final Round.

The finalists’ enthusiasm was terrific as they managed to become part of the top 20% of the 931 participants of MEMO 2022. In the Final Round, there were 173 participants from 107 schools in 34 cities with representatives from many provinces/districts in Indonesia, such as Manado, Balikpapan, Bojonegoro, Medan, Palembang, Kupang, Madiun, Jember, Makassar, Jabodetabek, as well as other cities. In the Final Round, all the finalists once again proved their enthusiasm to solve 20 questions that were no less challenging than the previous questions.

All participants who successfully participated in the Final Round received medals that were divided into 3 categories: the highest 20 percent received a gold medal, 30 percent of the second highest score received a silver medal, and the remaining 50 percent received a bronze medal. In addition, the main winners from each category were announced at the Awards Ceremony on 1st October 2022 with various attractive prizes, such as:

1. The 3rd place winner received a cash prize of Rp.1.000.000,00/category

2. The 2nd place winner received a cash prize of Rp.1,500,000,00/category

3. And the 1st Place Winner received a cash prize of Rp.2,000,000,00/category

4. The 3 top winners from each category also received a myON digital book account subscription for 1 year, books from Oxford Graded Readers, as well as consolation prizes from Frisian Flag Milky.
