The Bambu Gila, or Crazy Bamboo Game, has the original name Baramasewel and is said to have existed in the Moluccas before the spread of Islam and Christianity in the area. The people of Maluku know this game as a type of unique traditional art closely related to mystical nuances. How to play Crazy Bamboo is straightforward. The players hug and hold on to the the bamboo that moves, soaring according to the handler’s will. Before the game starts, the handler burns the incense he carries using a coconut shell container. The smoke from burning the scent is then ‘infused’ into the bamboo slats, making the bamboo move by itself.
