It is crucial to prioritize character education in Indonesia amidst the rapid technological advancements. Character education should be instilled early to ensure students embody noble qualities based on Pancasila values. Thus, a range of programs and activities are necessary to facilitate the implementation of character education, particularly for elementary school students.
Mentari Group and ASTA Ilmu Publishing have collaborated to introduce the Ibu Pertiwi program in 2021. This program focuses on enhancing students’ character and preparing them to become Indonesia’s Golden Generation in 2045. It aims to equip them to face future challenges and meet the needs of educators by emphasizing the importance of building character based on Pancasila Student Profiles. The Pancasila Student Profile is comprised of six dimensions: Faith and Noble Character, Global Diversity, Critical Reasoning, Independence, Mutual Cooperation, and Creativity. The Ibu Pertiwi program is just the beginning. Mentari Group is committed to expanding its programs and exploring new possibilities. In collaboration with ASTA Publishing and Tarumanagara University’s Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD), Mentari Group organised a National Jamboree focused on the Ibu Pertiwi program’s actualisation.
Since November 2022, the National Jamboree with Ibu Pertiwi has been held at schools following a character-strengthening program. The aim is to promote the Pancasila Project by integrating it with the learning units in the book Ibu Pertiwi. Students can work independently or in groups, using creative activities to demonstrate their understanding of Pancasila values. These activities include making posters, creating short videos, using recycled materials to make functional items, showcasing traditional games, and promoting a reading culture. On June 3rd, 2023, the National Jamboree with Ibu Pertiwi concluded at the Bogor Creative Center (BCC) in West Java. The event culminated with a showcase of successful actualisation projects from participating schools, allowing them to share their work and enhance their learning experience. Among the featured projects was the Pancasila Snakes and Ladders game.
The Pancasila Snakes and Ladders game is a unique activity that involves group play on a custom-made board. The game presents various challenges that encourage the application of Pancasila principles, as well as critical thinking skills. Additionally, participants must work together and rely on each other to complete the challenges based on the dice rolls. This game fosters collaboration and critical thinking, aligning with the Pancasila’s fundamental values.
The National Jamboree with Ibu Pertiwi was a highly anticipated event that drew together school principals, teachers, and students with great enthusiasm. Not only during the Pancasila Snakes and Ladders game, but participants also had the chance to interact and find inspiration by visiting project exhibitions from all participants. The event was filled with exciting activities, including collaborative games between participants from different schools, storytelling sessions led by teachers, and reflective sessions where students appreciated and admired the various works on display. After the activities, Mentari Group and ASTA Ilmu Publishing showed their appreciation to the participants by giving special awards to the participants whose selected works represented their schools which succeeded in creating and presenting a project to strengthen the Pancasila values, in cooperation with their teachers and school friends. The aspiration is for the Jamboree with Ibu Pertiwi to be organized annually on a larger scope, serving as a platform for schools to cultivate moral values and nurture an exceptional generation.
